The Analysis of Relationship Between Negative Community Attitudes and Exclusion of Disabled People from the Society

Abstract

Target: Status of social exclusion and its distribution among the disabled is one ofthe important issues in the field of social studies of disabilities.
The present study, intended to find out the relationship between the negative attitude of society and the exclusion of disabled from society.
The theoretical framework of this study is obtained by combination of medical and social approaches to the disabled.
Medical approaches consider the disability of the disabled as a physical and personal disability. But social approaches measure social structures and factors as the main causes of disability. In their opinion, social negative attitude is one of the social factors involved in the social exclusion of the disabled.
Method: In this research, have been used quantitative (survey) and qualitative(interview) methods. The statistical population in this study was from 15-64 years old physically disabled, who had a case in the welfare of Rey city. the sample consisted of 369 people, and to collect data, questionnaires and strong interview were used. A sample of 51 people was used purposefully For interview. Spss software was used for quantitative data analysis and content analysis technique was used for qualitative data analysis.
Findings: Findings show that the more negative attitude towards the disabled, themore severe social exclusion is experienced and vice versa.
Conclusion: It seems, extensive volume of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and the lack of relationships, social participation among disabled people, are associated with society’s negative attitudes toward people with disabilities. So, necessary measures should be taken as soon as possible through cultural institutions to change the attitude towards the disabled.
